What is the optimal strategy for choosing your height in high-jumping? Information is gradually revealed about how other competitors are doing. I saw one athlete take a “pass” at one point i.e. not jump. Succeed at a lower jump to lock in a “top 10,” or only jump “in the money” where you think the Bronze winner will eventually be?
Or if you are not a top-10 jumper, should you “go for broke” on every jump? If you miss every one you are at the bottom; but if you get lucky you could medal. (No doubt the rules place constraints on this strategy.)
There are doubtless physical issues (getting tired) and for many psychological issues.
